After many events as umpire or chief umpire for match racing, fleet racing or team racing, hope you can find on this document some advices about positionning for medal race.

This document is just a personal compilation of some technics that I use to umpire with small fleets like medal races. Of course, you can use it also for large fleet races.

You will find for each part of the race: start, upwind leg, downwind leg, rounding mark three different sections:

• a micro view: on this situation, you will manage positionning for only two boats.
• a macro view: here, you will manage positionning for more than two boats.
• umpire interaction: now you will play with other umpires, and see where and when you can swap positioning or not.
